Experience four different South African cultures in one day. Embark on a cultural exploration of Stellenbosch and discover the depth of our history, heritage and cuisine, because local is lekker! Visitors are accompanied by a dedicated guide who will travel with them and lead this full-day cultural adventure. Upon arrival at each point, groups are met by local site guides or hosts, who will welcome them into their communities and homes for a truly local view on their heritage.

Itinerary
09h00: The journey starts at the Visit Stellenbosch Tourism Centre in the heart of the historical town. Guests are welcomed by a professional tour guide, who will accompany the group throughout the day. Enjoy coffee and traditional home baked rusks, while listening to a briefing on the exciting journey ahead before leaving for a short trip to Kayamandi.
09h30: Arriving in Kayamandi, guests will embark on a walking tour through the second oldest township in South Africa. A local tour guide will lead them on a circular walking route through the hustle and bustle of the township. After the walk, guests will enjoy an interactive facilitated Gembe drumming session, try traditional Xhosa beer and enjoy a snack at a local home. From here, guests will travel nine kilometers over the panoramic Helshoogte Pass to Pniël.
12h00: The quaint village of Pniël was founded as a mission station for freed slaves in 1842. Here visitors will be met by a local guide who will take them back in time, through the history of the families that settled here, and now form part of this thriving community. The tour visits social justice commemoration sites, as well as the local museum that showcases an intimate recollection of the history of the area.
13h00: The group will take a short trip to a local home where a light traditional lunch will be enjoyed. After lunch an educational Cape Malay spice presentation will follow, together with a traditional Cape Malay dessert.
14h45: After a scenic drive through the Dwarsrivier Valley, guests will have the opportunity to taste some of the best wines in the Cape.
15h30: Back in Stellenbosch visitors will set off on a guided walking tour through the tree-lined streets of this inspiring university town, the second oldest in South Africa. The tour includes topics ranging from architecture and history to the Apartheid legislated forced removals and finally Stellenbosch University’s journey of restitution and social redress.
16h30: The tour concludes at the Visit Stellenbosch Tourism Centre.
