Explore Kayamandi with locals
The day starts off with a welcome and an informative social impact presentation, which explains the social realities and progress in the Kayamandi Township. Hosted at the Amazink venue, learners have access to refreshments and restrooms. This is followed by a group Gembe drumming session that can either be presented indoors or outside in our amphitheatre. A drumming tutorial is offered followed by an interactive session with a local drumming facilitator.
Learners then embark on a walking tour through the Kayamandi township where they will learn more about the history that formed this vibrant community. This walking adventure starts and ends at Amazink, where they will meet their local resident guides and receive a historic briefing on the area. The journey sets off in a circular route, weaving through shacks and visiting participating community shops, businesses, schools and attractions. On arrival back at Amazink, schools can opt to enjoy their own packed lunches, or a light traditional meal can be provided.
Schools then have the option to host an interactive discussion, enjoy a facilitated presentation on economic development in the area, or call it a day, depending on time constraints.
